We sit down with Oğul Eryaşar — Senior Finance Director at Activision Blizzard’s Los Angeles headquarters — to unpack the critical role digitalization plays in delivering successful restructuring. When we started discussions for this episode Oğul was Finance Director at Procter Genus; while we were preparing the conversation, he was appointed to his new role at Activision Blizzard.

Oğul’s thesis is clear: a project only earns the label of restructuring if two parallel tracks happen at the same time. First, existing processes are systematically reviewed against strategy, with each improvement step crisply defined. Second, those steps are implemented through digital tooling and made sustainable as a result.

Process design on its own is not enough. When companies redraw the workflow but cannot back the new design with digital tooling, the change reverts to old habits within months. The digital layer is what makes restructuring stick.

Strategy and digital tooling shape each other directly: the choice of which processes to redesign drives the digital investment thesis, and the choice of digital tools dictates which processes can actually scale. Oğul walks through that loop using projects he has lived across different geographies.

Through the episode he also opens up the finance leader’s specific role in the restructuring playbook — which metrics actually track success, and which cultural resistance points have to be anticipated long before they surface.
